This year, we face an important Westminster election. Change is in the air, and there is no doubt at all that change is exactly what’s needed.

13 years of cruel Westminster policies have decimated public services, seen a collapse in living standards and inflicted the worst cost pressures on families in a generation. Scotland has been taken out of the European Union against our will, with every local authority – including Angus – voting by majority to remain within it. Our voice, our parliament, and the needs of our economy, have been side-lined at every turn. This shows no sign of stopping, regardless of who wins the General Election.

Rather than seeking to address these issues, the UK political system is engulfed in a Punch and Judy style game, where both Labour and the Tories pitch to right-wing voters across England.

The Tories want to cut tax for the richest, and so do Labour. The Tories want to continue austerity, and so will Labour. The Tories want to wage a culture war on some of the most vulnerable people on earth, and so will Labour. The Tories will ignore Scotland and deny our right to choose our own future, and so will Labour.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Voters in Angus South will be in one of two new Westminster constituencies: Angus and Perthshire Glens or Arbroath and Broughty Ferry. You can check which of the two seats you live in here.

Your vote can help end Tory rule for good, so we can work together to build a better country for everyone.

Here’s how:

Angus and Perthshire Glens

If you live in Kirriemuir, the Glens, Piperdam, Liff, Fowlis, Auchterhouse or Inveraldie, you now vote in the Angus and Perthshire Glens constituency. Much of western and northern Angus has been merged with much of Perthshire to form this new seat.

Here it’s a straight contest between SNP candidate Dave Doogan and the Tories. Dave is the current Member of Parliament for Angus, and has an excellent record of standing up for this area, and fighting for Scotland. This vast new constituency needs an experienced hand, and a strong voice –that’s what voters here will get from Dave Doogan. Only a vote for Dave Doogan can stop the Tories and take Scotland forward to independence.

Arbroath and Broughty Ferry

If you live in Monifieth, Wellbank, Kellas, Carnoustie, Monikie, Arbroath, Letham, Friockheim, or Lunan, you now vote in the Arbroath and Broughty Ferry Constituency. The eastern half of Angus South has been merged with areas of eastern Dundee to form this new seat.

Here it’s a straight contest between SNP candidate Stephen Gethins and the Tories. Stephen is a former Member of Parliament, and current Professor of International Relations at St Andrews University. He was brought up in this area, knowing the needs of its people and communities. Stephen is on the side of working people right across this new seat. Only a vote for Stephen Gethins can stop the Tories here and take Scotland forward to independence.

Verdict:

To get rid of this Tory Government, vote SNP.

In half of the seats in Scotland, it’s a straight contest between the SNP and the Tories. Indeed, Labour don’t need seats in Scotland to form the next Government – with poll leads like they have, Labour will likely win a huge majority based on seats in England and Wales alone.

Only voting SNP will stop the Tories here in Scotland, and give us the opportunity to build a fairer country with the full powers of independence.
