The Radio Station Making a Difference

Graeme has recently paid a visit to Radio North Angus, a local non-profit radio station located here in Angus, which is using its platform to promote local issues and elevate local charities who are doing vital work in helping the vulnerable people of Angus.

Being an entirely voluntary local commercial radio station, Graeme wished to visit to gain insight into the challenges posed by working in local radio, and the work being done by the station in its effort to promote our local institutions.

Graeme also hopes with his visit to raise awareness of Radio North Angus and the role it plays in keeping Angus and Tayside informed of local issues, news, and charity work. Broadcasting across the region, the voluntary presenters at Radio North Angus are helping keep their listeners informed and, more importantly, entertained.

During this meeting, Graeme discussed with the volunteers the barriers faced by commercial broadcast radio stations, and how Radio North Angus’s non-profit status allows it flexibility in the variety of content that they broadcast, and how its volunteer team allow the station to offer low-cost advertising which is more accessible for small local businesses in Angus.

Graeme was showed the wide range of broadcast programmes provided on the station, such as the daily College Connection, and Lunch ‘n’ Listen.

I had a very insightful meeting with the team at Radio North Angus today, taking a look at the work being done in the local radio space.

The work being done in entertainment and information by Radio North Angus goes to show the power that local voluntary organising can have on the community, and I hope to see how the station develops in future as new generations of voluntary presenters join the station.

The team at Radio North Angus are doing a real service to the local community, broadcasting across Angus and beyond to keep people up to date on local news and events.

This visit was an excellent opportunity to witness the power of voluntary organisation in Angus. I am inspired by the team’s devotion to the station, and I encourage everyone to consider how they can take part in community projects such as Radio North Angus.
