‘Damning’ Admission by Tory Leadership Contender

The SNP has reiterated the point that independence is the only route to escape the damage of Brexit and Westminster control, after Rishi Sunak admitted labour shortages facing the UK are playing a part in the cost-of-living crisis hammering households.

When challenged earlier this week over why the UK was estimated to suffer higher inflation rates compared to EU neighbours, the former Chancellor stated that one of the contributing factors “that we have here that most European countries don’t have is tightness in our labour market”.

He added that “the thing that probably is the biggest challenge is finding workers and it has been for a while, and that labour inflation is something that we are experiencing that the rest of Europe is not”.

Here we have a damning political admission from one of the Tory leadership candidates – the one that enthusiastically pushed for Brexit no less.

Rishi Sunak has openly conceded that the Tories’ hard Brexit obsession is the key factor in the extent of the cost crisis now causing pain to millions – a crisis the UK Government continues to do nothing about.

The impact of labour shortages on the staggering level of UK inflation is just the latest example of the damage Brexit is causing – and yet now we have a Labour party every bit as committed to continuing down this ruinous path as the Tories.

It should be increasingly clear that a fair economic recovery for energy-rich Scotland will only come with the full powers of independence.
