Motions 12th January

Graeme is pleased to have recently lodged motions in Parliament congratulating Monifieth Befriending Scheme on securing funding and James Pirie and Son; Keptie Bakery; DH Robertson, and Fleming Butchers on being awarded for their excellent products.

Motion S5M-09763                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      That the Parliament congratulates the Monifieth Befriending Scheme on receiving a grant of £5,000 from the Henry Duncan Grants programme, which is part of the Corra Foundation; understands that this funding will be put towards the salary of the scheme’s part-time coordinator; notes that each year the foundation distributes just under £1 million through the programme to grassroots charities working in their local communities, and welcomes the work of befriending groups such as the Monifieth Befriending Scheme in tackling social isolation.

That the Parliament congratulates James Pirie & Son of Newtyle on its recent success at the Scottish Bakers World Championship Scotch Pie Awards 2018; understands that the Angus South constituency butchers’ famous Scotch pie won the top award and has been given the highly coveted title of 2018 World Champion Scotch Pie; notes the success of Keptie Bakery in Letham, which won a bronze award for its Scotch pie and a silver award for its macaroni pie, and applauds the success of local businesses in the Angus South constituency as they continue to support Scotland’s thriving food and drink industry.

That the Parliament congratulates two Arbroath-based businesses, DH Robertson and Fleming Butchers, on their success at the Scottish Craft Butchers Awards; commends DH Robertson on winning gold in both the Scotch Pie section and for its bridies, gold and silver awards respectively in the Chicken category for its shredded chicken burrito pies and its chicken and white pudding with peppercorn and whisky sauce, and further silvers in the Hand Held steak pie category and for its mince and mealie pie in the Speciality Pie section; congratulates Flemings Butchers on its sausage rolls, hand held steak pies and Scotch pies receiving silver awards, and its cheese and macaroni pies winning a further silver in the Speciality Pie category; commends both butchers on their tremendous pies, and welcomes what it sees as this further recognition of the outstanding food and drink produced in the Angus South constituency.
