Motions for Week Beginning 5th June 2017

Motions for Week Beginning 5th June 2017

Graeme was delighted to lodge the following motions in Parliament this week…

Motion S5M-05997: Sophie Smith of Arbroath St Thomas Swimming Club

That the Parliament congratulates Sophie Smith, who is a member of Arbroath St Thomas Swimming Club, on her selection to represent Scotland at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas; applauds all of the 41 athletes aged between 15 and 18 who will compete for Scotland at the sixth edition of the multi-sport games, and recognises the hard work and dedication displayed by all of the volunteers and swimmers at her club who have helped Sophie achieve such deserved success.

Motion S5M-05996: Panmure Preschool Awarded Eco Schools Scotland Green Flag

That the Parliament congratulates Panmure Preschool, which is based in Carnoustie, on it being awarded its first green flag as part of the Eco Schools Scotland programme; recognises the hard work of the children and staff in achieving this status, and applauds the preschool for continuing to teach children about the importance of the environment and protecting the planet.

Motion S5M-06011: International Success for Ogilvy Vodka

That the Parliament congratulates Ogilvy Vodka on it being presented with a platinum medal at the SIP Awards: International Spirits Competition, which is judged by consumers; notes that this follows the brand recently being named runner-up in the Conservation and Environment category at the Scottish Rural Awards, and wishes it continued success.

Motion S5M-06010: Paul Soutar’s Great Wall of China Fundraising Trek

That the Parliament congratulates Paul Soutar from Kirriemuir on raising £3,600 through his latest fundraising adventure; understands that Cancer Research UK’s Kirriemuir Relay for Life, SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy) and Action for ME will each receive £1,200; believes that this money was raised via a sponsored trek of the Great Wall of China; notes that, in 2016, Paul climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise £5,400 for a number of other charities; understands that both of these trips involved Paul getting his scissors out as the hairdresser undertook cuts at the top of Kilimanjaro and on his trek of the Great Wall; believes that Paul, who has ME and fibromyalgia, intends to trek to the Everest base camp in 2018, and wishes him all the best for this expedition.
