TRANSPORT NETWORK SET TO BE BUSY

10 August 2020

A new campaign has been launched, encouraging commuters to consider active travel options and plan their journeys as schools get set to reopen this week.

Extra pressure is expected to be put on the transport network as more people look to return to their workplaces with the return of pupils to classrooms.

The Travel Safe campaign encourages commuters to walk, wheel or cycle instead of using public transport, and to travel outside peak times or continue to work from home if possible. If people do need to use public transport, they’re being encouraging to make use of live information from the network to help plan their journeys.

Douglas Cairns from Transport Scotland said:

“While it’s welcome news that schools are reopening, it will put pressure on our road network and our public transport system as physical distancing rules are still in place.

“The Travel Safe campaign is asking commuters to help us keep Scotland moving by only travelling if you need to, and working from home if you can.

“If you do need to travel please walk, wheel or cycle wherever possible. You could also look to make your journey outside of the peak times.

“You can find up to date travel information on the Traffic Scotland website and twitter page, allowing you to plan ahead and check your route before you set off. Travel advice is also available on the Transport Scotland website.”
