Local MSP Graeme Dey has been advised by SEPA that it has received no further complaints regarding pollution in the Brothock Burn.
SEPA has stated that inspection hasn’t identified any further issues with oil in the tributary of the Hercules Burn nor have there been any further complaints and Angus Council have removed the boom. The response Mr Dey has received goes on to state that there is no history of oil pollution in this tributary and it seems likely this is a one off incident .
SEPA has also explained that the joint investigation with Angus Council and Scottish Water at the time failed to trace the point of entry into the system and the agency appreciates and shares Mr Dey’s frustration. The extensive nature of the surface water system and the culverted watercourse make identifying the source , unless it’s an ongoing incident, exceedingly difficult however SEPA will remain vigilant and should further evidence of oil appear it will work with both Angus Council and Scottish Water to investigate the systems.
Mr Dey commented:
“Whilst it is frustrating that identifying the source of this issue has been difficult, I am pleased that no further issues have been reported.
“I welcome that SEPA is to remain vigilant and will investigate any new evidence of pollution in the Brothock Burn.”
