Motions for Week Beginning 29th May 2017

Motions for Week Beginning 29th May 2017

Graeme was delighted to lodge the following motions in Parliament this week…

Motion S5M-05963: Carers Week 2017

That the Parliament acknowledges and welcomes Carers Week 2017, which is an annual awareness campaign that, this year, takes place from 12 to 18 June; believes that it is organised by eight charities in Scotland, which are Carers Scotland, Age Scotland, Carers Trust Scotland, Independent Age, Macmillan Cancer Support Scotland, MND Scotland, MS Society Scotland and Which? Elderly Care; notes that there will be hundreds of events held across Scotland, including in local carers centres such as Angus Carers Centre; understands that, by raising awareness of carers at a national, regional and local level, the organisers of Carers Week hope to improve the lives of carers and the people that they care for; notes that the week will support the development of carer-friendly communities, which aim to support carers to look after their own health and wellbeing, and to reach out to the thousands of carers in Scotland who are currently missing out on practical and financial support; understands that there are over 759,000 carers in Scotland, who save the Scottish economy more than £10.8 billion every year, and welcomes the efforts of carers across Scotland in supporting their loved ones.

Motion S5M-05914: Congratulations to Dream Hair, Arbroath

That the Parliament congratulates Dream Hair on being named as the Scottish Salon of the Year at the grand final of the 2017 Business Awards, which were held in Glasgow in May; notes that this national recognition follows the Arbroath-based hairdresser being awarded the title of the Dundee and Angus Salon of the Year in November 2016, and commends what it sees as the incredible work of its owner, Marie McIntosh Ramminger, and the other small business owners across the Angus South constituency, as they continue to provide invaluable support for the economy.
