Motions for Week Beginning 2nd October

Graeme is delighted to have this week lodged motions in Parliament congratulating various people and organisations across Angus South constituency for some quite fantastic achievements…

Motion S5M-08041: Michelle Reynolds Receives Employee of the Year Special Commendation

That the Parliament congratulates the Journeycall employee, Michelle Reynolds, on receiving a special commendation in the Association of Scottish Business Women Employee of the Year Awards category; notes that the awards reward enterprise, creativity, extraordinary contribution, skills and vision, showcasing the very best talent in Scotland; understands that the employee of the year category was introduced in 2013 and recognises the qualities of a successful woman who makes a significant individual contribution to support her employer to deliver superior performance; applauds all of the winners, and wishes Michelle and everyone at Journeycall continued success.

Motion S5M-08042: Blake McMillan Fundraiser

That the Parliament welcomes the outstanding generosity of those who raised £37,500 at a fundraising event held on 30 September 2017 to support research into MECP2 duplication syndrome and to assist the Carnoustie youngster, Blake McMillan, who has the condition, to attend clinic trials in the United States; understands that the total amount raised to date is now £200,000; believes that only a few hundred people around the world have this condition, which prevents people walking, talking and eating, and hopes that this money will go some way to helping to find a cure.

Motion S5M-08068: East Haven Together, Scottish Resources Awards Winner

That the Parliament congratulates East Haven Together on receiving the prize for the best litter prevention initiative at the Scottish Resources Awards; notes that the awards recognise excellence in Scotland’s circular economy and resource management sectors, and welcomes the time and effort shown by the people of East Haven, which has resulted in them winning this accolade.

Motion S5M-08117: Darren Burnett for Team Scotland 2018

That the Parliament congratulates the Angus South constituent, Darren Burnett, on his selection to represent Team Scotland at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games; understands that the well-decorated bowls player won gold at the men’s singles event at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games; notes that the bowler, who plays at Arbroath Bowling Club, also won two gold medals at the 2016 World Indoor Championships, and wishes Darren and all of Team Scotland the best of luck for the 2018 games.

Motion S5M-08157: Young Farmer of the Year

That the Parliament congratulates the Kirkton of Monikie farmer, James Fairlie, on winning the Farming Weekly 2017 Young Farmer of the Year award; notes that the judges praised James for dramatically enhancing the family’s core business by integrating new projects and exploiting the synergies of bioenergy with farming, and encourages all young Scottish farmers to follow James’s lead and be innovative in utilising precision techniques to improve productivity.
