Catriona Steele Named Angus Sports Personality of the Year
That the Parliament congratulates Catriona Steele on being named Sports Personality of the Year at the 2017 Angus Sports Awards; notes that Catriona won two gold medals in individual events at the Taekwon-Do World Cup in Budapest, Hungary as part of the Scottish team, and also won double gold at the Scottish Championships; understands that Catriona has also given back to the sport by assisting at her club in development and administrative roles, as well as volunteering to coach junior club members and umpiring regional competitions; congratulates the other Angus award winners, Gemma Lumsdaine, who won the Sports Personality of the Year award for People with a Disability, Young Sports Personality of the Year award winner, Joel McFarlane, Team of the Year, Arbroath High School Open Girls Basketball Team, Scott Haxton, Coach of the Year, Rhona Alston, winner of the Service to Sport award, Grant Hutchison, Club Volunteer of the Year and Chris Kettles, School Sports Volunteer of the Year, and welcomes what it sees as the fantastic sporting achievements that have been recognised through these awards.
That the Parliament notes the reports of the Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Committee, the Economy, Jobs and Fair Work Committee, the Local Government and Communities Committee and the Rural Economy and Connectivity Committee on the Scottish Government document, Draft Climate Change Plan – the Draft Third Report on Policies and Proposals 2017-2032.

That the Parliament welcomes the campaign to tackle roadside litter in Angus, which was launched by the environment charity, Keep Scotland Beautiful, as part of a nationwide campaign to encourage the travelling public to take their litter home; understands that Angus is the first local authority to work with Keep Scotland Beautiful to launch a local drive as part of this campaign; recognises the detrimental impact that litter has, not only on roads and environment but on the economy, with figures showing that the cost of clearing up litter totalled £47,000 in 2016 in Angus alone; notes the dangers that workers face when attempting to clear roadsides, and welcomes the coalition of organisations supporting the initiative encouraging every road user to do the responsible thing and give their litter a lift and take it home.

That the Parliament congratulates Pippa’s Kitchen in Monifieth on being named the Central Region’s Cake Designer of the Year at the Scottish Wedding Awards; understands that the company was set up in 2012 and produces bespoke cakes and cupcakes for special occasions; notes that the awards seek to recognise and reward the efforts and dedication of the very best in Scotland’s wedding industry, and wishes Pippa’s Kitchen’s owner, Pippa Hutcheon, continuing success.

That the Parliament congratulates the Carnoustie resident, Calum Bruce, on being honoured by Scottish Rugby for his commitment to youth coaching and his club; notes that Calum, who is the head of mini rugby at Carnoustie Rugby Club, was presented with the Volunteer of the Month award for January at the annual Scottish Rugby Club Awards Dinner at Murrayfield; understands that he was nominated by his friend and fellow member of Carnoustie Rugby Club, Andrew Cranston; believes that Andrew put Calum forward for the award as he has been putting a lot of work in at primary schools, along with the club’s mini midi sessions, which has led to a big increase in the number of children coming along, as well as for him going the extra mile by undertaking a variety of tasks at the club, and commends Calum on his efforts to help the young people of Carnoustie to enjoy rugby.
