Graeme this week lodged three motions in Parliament congratulating various people and organisations across Angus South constituency for some quite fantastic achievements.
Motion S5M-08663: Arbroath Academy Success in the Brilliant Science Competition
That the Parliament congratulates pupils from Arbroath Academy who picked up awards in the Brilliant Science Competition, which was organised by Amphibian and Reptile Conservation and hosted by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland; commends Rachel Simpson, who won her age category, as well as the other pupils who received prizes, which were Cameron Glen, Saul McGivney and Seanna McNeill; understands that pupils from across Scotland were asked to depict 15 iconic Scottish wildlife species in paintings, drawings and writing; believes that the youngsters’ work will be used to illustrate a new book called Amazing Animals, Brilliant Science: how DNA technology is being used to help save Scotland’s wildlife; congratulates all of the winners from across Scotland, and commends the work being done to engage young people in science.
Motion S5M-08683: Arbikie Wins at The Scotsman Food and Drink Awards
That the Parliament congratulates Arbikie on receiving the Best Spirit Award for its Kirsty’s Gin at the inaugural The Scotsman Food and Drink Awards, which have been established to recognise the success story that is Scotland’s food and drink sector; welcomes this further recognition for Arbikie and the sector in Angus, and wishes Arbikie continued success.
Motion S5M-08682: Angus SQA Stars
That the Parliament congratulates the Angus-based winners at the 2017 SQA Star Awards; commends Grant Ritchie, who is the Principal of Dundee and Angus College, on receiving the highest honour, the SQA Fellowship, in recognition of his dedication to providing great learning and teaching; notes that, before becoming assuming his post, Grant developed creative industries at the college, working with the SQA on developing the HNC and diploma courses in this area; congratulates Tricia Lowe, who is an acting Assessment Centre Manager with Angus Council’s Social Work department, on being presented with the SQA Champion Award and winning the Pride o’ Worth prize; believes that Tricia was nominated by her colleagues in recognition of the support that she has provided to many of her co-workers, helping them to build successful careers by encouraging them to undertake vocational qualifications; welcomes the social work department winning the Lifelong Learning Centre of the Year award, and further welcomes the SQA awards recognising the hard work of pupils and students and people working in schools, colleges and training centres, as well as those who teach people in workplaces.
