Motion S5M-1131That the Parliament congratulates The Learning Tree Partnership on its recent £9,156 grant from the Big Lottery Fund; notes that the organisation, based in Arbroath, works with people with learning disabilities, providing a range of learning and training opportunities; welcomes the grant, which will enable the group to expand its learning and training opportunities for people in Angus by renting a permanent shop front to expand one of its main activities, which involves gaining skills and experience in customer service by selling books and CDs, and encourages all local community groups to apply to the Awards for All Scotland programme when seeking funding for projects that aim to help improve local communities and the lives of people most in need.
Motion S5M-11357That the Parliament welcomes what it sees as the moves that have been taken by major supermarkets and the National Federation of Retail Newsagents in Angus South and across the country, to ban the sale of energy drinks to under-16s; believes that there is growing concern regarding the consumption of these products among children and young people; understands that a number of studies have indicated that the drinks might have a detrimental impact on health; considers that voluntary measures to restrict their sales are positive steps toward improving the nation’s public health, and notes the view that all retailers should be encouraged to follow suit.
