A group of seven SNP MSPs have demanded an urgent meeting with Bank of Scotland chiefs after a shock announcement of further bank closures.
Yesterday [Wednesday, 14th November 2018], it was announced that the Bank of Scotland intends to close local branches in Burnside, Dundee, Glasgow, Keith, Kirriemuir, Lossiemouth, Paisley and Stonehouse.
The Bank of Scotland plans to close its Kirriemuir branch in May 2019.
SNP MSPs have now written to Bank of Scotland’s Managing Director, Robin Bulloch, calling for an urgent re-think.
Angus South Constituency MSP Graeme Dey commented:
“This is a completely outrageous decision by the Bank of Scotland.
“The Bank of Scotland previously had a policy of not closing the last bank in a town. That has clearly been abandoned, as that is exactly what it will be doing in Kirriemuir, as are the needs of its customers.
“Many people need to or choose to undertake their banking in person, many of whom are my more vulnerable constituents.
“This announcement is deeply unwelcome and disappointing.”
