SNP Budget Delivering for Local Schools
Graeme has welcomed the £3,853,000 increase in education funding for Angus Council included in the recently passed Scottish Budget.
The 2.1% increase delivered by the Scottish Government was backed by Graeme and SNP colleagues, and yet rejected by the local Tory regional MSPs – while the Labour MSPs for North East Scotland abstained.
This uplift comes as part of a £186.5 million boost for education across Scotland in the budget – alongside an additional £29 million funding for Additional Support Needs (ASN), to deliver the best outcomes for young people in Angus.
Graeme has said voters in Angus will not forgive Labour and Tory politicians for refusing to back this uplift for local young people.
The @ScotGov budget 2025-26 provided £4.3 billion for education and skills, including £186.5 million for councils to increase teacher numbers and £28 million for councils for ASN.

I obviously welcome the substantial boost to education in Angus included in the SNP’s Budget which passed this week.

Its passing followed constructive collaboration with some opposition parties – but notably not others.
It is for Tory and Labour colleagues to explain to constituents why they failed to back a budget that will deliver much needed additional resources to Angus and right across Scotland.
This funding will help to maintain teacher numbers and improve ASN provision as well as outcomes for young people locally – building on a strong record which saw a record £1 billion spent by councils on ASN in 2024.
