New Angus Parents Benefitting
Graeme has welcomed new figures which show that 22,864 baby boxes have been delivered across the NHS Tayside health board area.
Scotland-wide, over 319,800 baby boxes have now been delivered to to support expectant parents.
The boxes provide around £420 worth of essential items for a newborn and for a baby’s first weeks and months. It also provides a safe space for babies to sleep near their parents.
Based on the Finnish model, which has a proven record of decreasing infant mortality, the baby box scheme was adopted by the SNP Scottish Government – which subsequently inspired its expansion to Ireland as well.
The Scottish Government says it remains committed to ensuring that all of Scotland’s young people have a secure and healthy start to life, and that the baby box is a policy which aims to significantly improve positive health outcomes and support for newborns and families across Scotland.
I am delighted that so many new families in Angus, across Tayside and all over Scotland are continuing to benefit from this important SNP policy.
GRAEME
The baby box is not only an exemplar of our values of equal opportunity – it provides key products that are a considerable expense for new parents.
This policy is helping contribute to the significantly positive health outcomes of the Scottish Government’s wider approach to supporting infants, young people and families and keeping 100,000 out of poverty this year.
The SNP is determined that Scotland be the best place in the world to grow up, and that means giving all the best possible start in life.
