Labour Cave to Millionaire Lobbying

Chancellor’s ‘Davos Deal’ Relaxes Non-Dom Rules

The SNP has accused the Chancellor Rachel Reeves of doing a ‘Davos deal for millionaires’ after she confirmed that she will soften tax rules for the UK’s “non-dom community”.

Rachel Reeves made the announcement that she will amend the UK Finance Bill during the World Economic Forum in Davos, saying that she had been ‘listening to the concerns’ of those millionaires impacted by her tax changes in the UK budget.

It comes as the Labour Chancellor has stubbornly refused ‘listening to the concerns’ of ordinary people affected by her Government’s policies.

That includes the lobbying of millions of pensioners who had their winter fuel payments removed, WASPI women denied compensation, and businesses and charities who are being hit with Labour’s massive tax hike to national insurance.

The Chancellor’s Davos deal for millionaires shows just how rapidly out of touch this UK Labour Government has already become.

A Labour Chancellor with a listening ear for millionaires, but deaf to the difficulties of those millions still struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.

Rachel Reeves says she has been ‘listening to the concerns’ of millionaire non-doms.

The public will rightly now ask – when will this Labour Chancellor start ‘listening to the concerns’ of the millions of businesses and charities who will be hit by her massive tax hike in national insurance contributions? When will she start ‘listening to the concerns’ of the millions of pensioners who had their winter fuel payments removed by Labour? When will she start ‘listening to the concerns’ of the Waspi women who Labour have denied fair compensation?

When will Rachel Reeves start ‘listening to the concerns’ of the many who have been hit by her budget, instead of the millionaire few who have been lobbying her in places like Davos?

Labour’s Davos deal for millionaires is the latest in a long line of examples of a Labour Party that has lost any sense of itself and what it used to believe in. It is little wonder that they are plummeting in the polls.

In Scotland, it’s clear where the SNP’s values sit and it’s clear that we are the only party prepared to stand up for the interests of the many, not just the few.
