Tealing & Strathmartine Schools to Benefit
As Book Week Scotland opens, it has been announced that 17 projects will benefit from the 2024-25 funding round through the School Library Improvement Fund (SLIF).
Among those being support are Tealing and Strathmartine Primary Schools here in Angus. £2,500 is being directed towards their Rural Schools Let’s Get Reading project.
Nationwide, over 50 schools will share a total of £150,000 investment distributed through this fund.
Programmes like SLIF allow school libraries across the breadth of the country to tailor their offering to the pupils who make use of the library on a daily basis.
Other projects receiving funding include the S’More Reading For Mental Health initiative in Aberdeenshire, which uses campfire-themed kits with tents, replica campfires and nature toys to create a calming atmosphere for storytelling sessions.
I am very pleased to see both Tealing and Strathmartine Primary Schools benefitting from this funding for their project to promote reading.

I know this will make a real difference for pupils and staff alike.
It is so advantageous to foster a passion for reading from an early age, and I know these schools are doing exactly that.
Developing that passion can truly open up a world of opportunities to children and young people.

As Book Week Scotland gets underway, it’s an important time to reflect on the vital role school libraries play in supporting improved literacy and communications skills in our children.
