Starmer Boastful About Austerity Cuts

Prime Minister Brags He Has the ‘Balls’ to Hit Poorest

The SNP has reacted angrily to a disgraceful boast by UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, who has said he has the ‘balls’ to slash support for the poorest in society – following his threat to be ‘ruthless with cuts’.

The SNP’s leader in the House of Commons, Stephen Flynn, hit back at the Prime Minister, saying “it’s not ruthless or a sign of strength to make the political choice to go after the poor – it’s full-on Tory“.

The Prime Minister’s comments come as Labour’s collapse in the polls continues.

Starmer’s remarks have been seen as a further and deliberate right-wing shift for the UK Labour Government in response.

These comments from Keir Starmer are in incredibly bad taste, and are perhaps the most transparently right wing to date.

The Labour Party has failed in government and it is getting desperate.

For the Prime Minister to threaten devastating cuts in such a callous way, given the impact they would have on struggling families and the most vulnerable, goes against everything his party is meant to stand for.

Scotland can do so much better, and the electorate are waking up to this.

Labour promised “change”.

What has that looked like? Failing WASPI women, cutting winter heating payments and keeping people in poverty.

Faced with the Labour Party’s collapse in support, the UK’s Prime Minister has deliberately decided to punch down on the poor. Openly bragging about hitting the pockets of the poorest is one of his most shameful comments yet in a sorry 7 months in office.

Keir Starmer needs to learn what the Scottish people have long understood – it’s not ruthless or a sign of strength to make the political choice to go after the poor – it’s full-on Tory’.

In his short time in office, it is very telling that this Labour Prime Minister has already defined himself by cutting the winter fuel payment for pensioners and is now going after the poorest who need the support of social security.

For those watching Keir Starmer’s words and his actions over the last 7 months, many will have come to the conclusion that when someone shows you who they are – believe them.

In the SNP we are proud to have the real strength and the real understanding that supporting the poorest in our society benefits us all. That’s why we are reinstating the winter fuel payment for all our pensioners, why we will scrap Labour’s cruel two child cap and why we will continue to invest in the Scottish child payment.

It’s clear where the SNP’s values sit – and it’s clearer by the day that the values the Labour Party once claimed to hold are completely lost.
