Town Funding Pledge Needs to be Honoured
Graeme has insisted that, in the upcoming UK Budget, Chancellor Rachel Reeves must deliver the £20 million promised to Arbroath through the Long-Term Plan for Towns.
The Chancellor’s Tory predecessor, Jeremy Hunt, announced back in March that Arbroath is to benefit from ‘endowment-style’ funding and support worth up to £20 million. This was pledged to deliver projects over the 10-year lifespan of the UK Levelling Up The Long-Term Plan for Towns fund.
The fund is designed to help local people decide on local priorities and what is best for the long-term future of the places in which they live.
Last month, Graeme caught up with Peter Stirling, Chair of the Arbroath Town Board, to hear about the important work ongoing to engage the people of Arbroath about the fund for the town.
The Board now have an ambitious regeneration plan, but this is dependent on the new Labour government following through on this long-term commitment.
