Regional food fund backs small business in Angus
Graeme has welcomed new Scottish Government funding to support small food and drink business in Angus, particularly Carnoustie, through the latest round of the Regional Food Fund.
Grants of up to £5000 have been awarded to 15 innovative and collaborative projects across Scotland, with funding supporting everything from farmers markets and festivals to food tourism and skills development.
Angus Farmers Market has been awarded £3,000 in funding for Appetite for Angus. The project aims to rescue and revitalise the farmers’ markets in Forfar, Carnoustie and Montrose which are due to close in their current form. Markets provide a vital source of income in the area. Funds will contribute to market rebrand.
This funding helps showcase Scotland’s world-class local produce and supports rural jobs.
Scotland’s food and drink sector is worth £15 billion to the economy and is one of the country’s largest employers.
Since 2021, over £500,000 has been distributed through the Regional Food Fund, supporting more than 100 projects to date.
Scotland’s food and drink sector is second to none, and here in Angus, we’re proud of our local producers, growers and food entrepreneurs. This SNP Government funding is backing small businesses to grow, innovate, and promote what makes Angus so special.

Whether it’s at a local farmers market, a food festival or a community food project, this is about investing in rural prosperity and creating new opportunities for jobs, skills and tourism in Angus.
This is yet another example of the SNP delivering for rural Scotland. At a time when small producers are facing serious challenges, exacerbated by Labour in Westminster, this targeted support helps them thrive, compete and reach new customers.
