Starmer’s Negotiator Says ‘Not in My Lifetime’ to EU Return

The SNP has reiterated that the only escape from broken, Brexit Britain and back into the European Union is through the fresh start of independence. 

It comes as Keir Starmer’s EU negotiator, Nick Thomas-Symonds, ruled out a return to the EU in his lifetime.

He indicated that the Labour Party are stubbornly committed to economic illiteracy with their pledge “not to rejoin the single market or the customs union or go back to freedom of movement“.

The depth of Brexit Britain’s financial black hole is currently being faced, and exacerbated, by the UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves – with some estimates suggesting the UK Treasury will require upwards of £50 billion in cuts and tax rises in the autumn budget.

The SNP has said that this is the cost of fitting into the straight jacket of the Tory fiscal rules that the Labour Party willing signed up to.

The only escape from broken, Brexit Britain and back into the European Union is through the fresh start of independence.

It’s a disgrace that Labour and Westminster politicians of all stripes can arrogantly tell the Scottish people that we don’t have the right to a return to the EU in our ‘lifetime’.

Scotland voted to remain in the European Union and our right to that future remains. As the First Minister has clearly set out, Scotland must have the right to decide its own future and a defining part of that choice will be our right to return to our home in the European Union. 

As UK politics is led down a dangerous and divisive path – a Farage future awaits Westminster. For Scotland, that is why it is now so urgent that the future of our nation is in the hands of the Scottish people, not in the hands of Westminster.

Independence is the fresh start Scotland needs and that fresh start will bring us back into the prosperity and security of the European Union.
