MSP and Councillors visit site of new school
Graeme has visited the new Monifieth Learning Campus site, along with local Councillors Beth Whiteside and Lloyd Melville, and the Councilās Convener of Family, Education and Justice, Lynne Devine.
The new facility, with a budget of Ā£66.5 million, is the largest ever investment in the area, funded jointly by Angus Council and the Scottish Government. According to Council Budget documents released in late February, the project accounts for 44% of the Councilās budgeted capital spend in the coming years.
It will meet Passivhaus standard, will feature an array of PV panels and incorporate air-source heat pumps into the design, boosting the projectās climate credentials. Alongside a larger capacity, the building will also contain a purpose-built ASN department, an early learning centre, and a swimming pool.
Construction commenced in summer 2023, and the school is due to open to pupils in the second half of 2025.
This is a huge investment in the future of education here in Monifieth. I am delighted to see the progress made.
GRAEME
This project is being delivered by an SNP-led Scottish Government and SNP-led Council working together to deliver a fit-for-purpose facility for the next generation.
I look forward to seeing it open next year.
The Learning Campus project is a real priority for me ā as a former pupil of the current school I know how much this is needed.
CLLR LLOYD MELVILLE
Iāve been impressed by how the school has worked with Robertson Construction to give young people hands-on experience while this work is ongoing.
This is the largest ever investment in Monifieth and Sidlaw Ward ā and I am so proud to be part of the team that is delivering it.
Iām excited to see the progress being made on this transformational project.
COUNCIL LEADER, BETH WHITESIDE
Despite the financial challenges faced by the Council, education remains a priority, including providing the best learning environment for our young people.
Iām extremely proud that we are delivering this facility to such a high standard and look forward to seeing the project progress over the coming months.
