Deputy Prime Minister & Investment Minister Both Quit

The SNP has said Keir Starmer is “governing by chaos” with both his Deputy Prime Minister and Investment Minister quitting.

Stephen Flynn MP said the resignations were a “yet another catastrophic blow for Keir Starmer’s failing government” and had “blown apart” the latest failed reset of the Labour government within a matter of days.

The SNP Westminster Leader warned “voters were promised change but under Starmer things have gone from bad to worse” and said “it’s increasingly clear why Scotland needs a fresh start with independence – so we can build a better future instead of being stuck under the constant failure of Westminster control.

Polling by YouGov, published last week, revealed the overwhelming majority of Scots (86%) think the UK is in a ‘bad state’ and six in ten (60%) people think the UK is going to get even worse over the next year under Keir Starmer.

The resignations come at a time of growing failure and unpopularity for Keir Starmer’s government – with the cost of living rising, the UK economy and public finances deteriorating, and the Chancellor expected to impose billions of pounds worth of austerity cuts and tax hikes at the UK Budget to fill the gap in her failed economic plan.

On Keir Starmer’s watch, UK borrowing hit a 27-year high this week. Meanwhile, the Labour government’s National Insurance tax hike has increased unemployment to a four-year high, child poverty is at record levels, UK economic growth has been downgraded, and UK energy bills, food prices and inflation are all going up by more than expected, despite Keir Starmer’s election pledge to bring them down.

This is yet another catastrophic blow for Keir Starmer’s failing government, which is one of the least popular and most chaotic governments of modern times.

The Labour Party is governing by chaos – with the Prime Minister’s latest reset blown apart within days by more scandals, more failure and more resignations.

Voters were promised change but under Starmer things have gone from bad to worse. The UK government has been beset by scandals and instability, the cost of living is soaring, poverty is at record levels, unemployment is at a four-year high, the UK economy has been downgraded, public finances are deteriorating – and the vast majority of people think the UK is in a bad state.

Brexit Britain is broken and it’s increasingly clear why Scotland needs a fresh start with independence – so we can build a better future instead of being stuck under the constant failure and chaos of Westminster control.

– SNP WESTMINSTER LEADER STEPHEN FLYNN
