Scottish Government Extends Peak Fare Removal Pilot
Graeme has welcomed the Scottish Government’s announcement that its scrapping of peak rail fares will be continued over the summer.
The pilot scheme, which came into effect in October of last year, was originally due to end on 28 June but will now continue for a further three months until the end of September.
Graeme has said that SNP government action is making travel more affordable and will encourage constituents – especially commuters – to use the train to save money, while helping to drive forward Scotland’s journey to Net Zero.
Since peak fares were abolished by the SNP, passengers across Scotland have been saving as much as £26.20 per return journey on their journeys.
Locally, passengers on the Dundee-Perth line are saving £3.60, while those travelling between Dundee and Aberdeen save £6.80.
I am very pleased with the decision of this SNP Government to extend the removal of peak fares.
GRAEME
This is good news for my constituents across Angus who will continue to benefit from price cuts on rush hour journeys, particularly those struggling most through the ongoing Tory cost of living crisis.
It will also be a boost for tourism, both domestic and international, helping travellers as well as our hospitality businesses and renowned attractions make the most of Scotland’s summer months.
The SNP in government is helping put money back into people’s pockets and is delivering on low-carbon travel.
