Local representatives note progress on site.

Graeme visited the site of the new Monifieth Community Hub alongside Local Councillors Beth Whiteside and Lloyd Melville. The representatives attended to see the progress made during construction of the facility.

The new space, which had been campaigned for over a period of years by local residents, started construction in late 2023 after Angus Council agreed a financial deal which took the project over the line. Since May 2022, Angus Council has provided over £400,000 in additional support for the facility. Mr Dey and the Councillors had the opportunity to see the building taking shape; including the future site of Monifieth Library, which will have extended opening hours in the new hub.

With construction due to be complete in late summer, residents are eagerly awaiting the opening of the Hub, with local campaigners Monifieth Community Resource Group taking to social media to ask for suggestions for a name for the facility.

This Hub will make a big difference to the town, providing a new space for community groups and residents to use.

I am also hopeful it will be a destination for people who use the new Monifieth-Broughty Ferry active travel route.

I congratulate Monifieth Community Resource Group for their tireless efforts to get this over the line – it is a remarkable achievement and will be a source of pride for the community.

With the opening only a matter of months away, I know residents will be excited at the prospect of a new, versatile community space.

I am particularly pleased that it will provide a secure, long-term future for Monifieth Library.

I very much look forward to seeing it open later this year.

It is fantastic to see the progress of the building.

The project is a great illustration of collaborative working between the council and local communities, but wouldn’t have been possible without the perseverance and commitment of members of the Monifieth Community Resource Group.
