‘Special Position’ for Northern Ireland While Scotland Ignored Again
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has admitted that being outside of the European Union puts Scotland at a competitive disadvantage.
The admission was made as he outlined how Northern Ireland has been put in a ‘special position’ with single market access.
During a Q&A session on his deal, Sunak said Northern Ireland would have a unique position in the entire world.
The SNP say that Scotland, which voted overwhelmingly to remain within the EU, has been ignored once again.
Shortly after the Northern Ireland deal was set out, Tory MSP Roz McCall made an admission of her own during an appearance on the BBC panel show Debate Night.
When asked by an audience member to outline what she thought the benefits of Brexit were, and on being further pushed by host Stephen Jardine, she said she had ‘difficulty’ finding them.
This week we have heard our Brexiteer Prime Minister extolling the clear benefits of single market access for Northern Ireland, and a Tory MSP admitting on TV that Brexit has brought no benefits to Scotland.

It has highlighted the grave disadvantage Scotland faces, despite our overwhelming rejection of Brexit at the ballot box – having lost access the access we had to a market over seven times the size of the UK’s.
While the needs of Northern Ireland are being met, Scotland is again ignored and left to live with the dire economic consequences of a Brexit it never wanted – a Brexit now fully backed by Labour as well.
The new agreement for Northern Ireland has a great deal in common with sensible but disregarded proposals for Scotland made by the SNP Government throughout the EU exit process, but it is clear that only with independence will Scotland see any such benefits.
